Committee on Special Education
By invitation only, not open to the public.
The Committee on Special Education (CSE) and the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) are appointed by the Board of Education.  They are charged with ensuring the timely evaluation and placement of students with disabilities.  Both committees act in accordance with the provisions of Education Law.  The CSE and CPSE are made up of individuals that can meaningful contribute to the discussion of the student’s strengths and needs.  The roles of the committees include:  identifying students requiring evaluation, interpreting test results for the purpose of determining eligibility, delineating the goals  students need to achieve and establishing a plan to address these needs within the least restrictive environment. The committee(s) on special education and preschool special education have high expectations for student with disabilities and the desire to educate of all children with disabilities alongside their typical peers to the greatest extent possible.

SDM Collaboration Council
Open to the public
The SDM Collaboration Council (formerly known as the District Advisory Committee) is a representative body comprised of individuals serving on the Shared Decision Making teams of each of the four schools in the district. Principals, teachers, support staff, parents, and students are involved in significant decisions about their schools through the work of the various SDM teams. Through the SDM Collaboration Council an opportunity for collaboration in decision making and shared responsibility for improvement district-wide is facilitated. School-based SDM teams collaborate in identifying educational issues, defining goals, formulating and implementing decisions, and evaluating the success of those decisions in helping students reach higher standards of excellence. Important information and initiatives from the various SDM teams are brought to the SDM Collaboration Council for discussion and review and, similarly, ideas for future initiatives will be discussed and forwarded to the school-based teams for review and any appropriate action.

    Green Committee

    The Rocky Point Green Schools Committee is comprised of Rocky Point teachers, parents, support professionals and administrators. The mission of the Green Committee is to help design and support best management practices for greening Rocky Point’s four public school buildings. The committee is committed to reducing our ecological footprint and providing our children — our future leaders— with an environmental education and exemplary environmental programs.

    Facilities Planning Sub Committee
    Open to the public
    The Facilities Sub Committee (FSC) is a sub-committee of the health and safety committee. The FSC is tasked with planning and advising on matters that affect the district’s facilities. Toward that end, FSC establishes plans and advises on matters that will maintain the District’s buildings and grounds, ensuring they are safe and accessible to our students and the community. The FSC is composed of parents, teachers, administrators, and support professionals, a number of whom are also members of the health and safety committee.

    Health and Safety Committee
    Open to the public
    The Health and Safety Committee is comprised of members of the Rocky Point schools community including teachers, parents, support staff and administrators. The committee meets throughout the year to discuss matters pertaining to the health and safety of the students, staff and physical plant.  In addition, the committee also discusses any concerns that community members may have so they may be addressed.  Core to the committee's mission is providing a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment.

    Next STEP Update Committee
    Open to the public
    Parents, teachers, support professionals, and administrators are invited to join Action Planning Teams that meet annually to review the District's strategic plan, Next STEP.   The process includes reevaluating and updating the status of existing items as well as collaboratively developing future action plans to support the achievement of the District's goals.

    Shared Decision Making Teams

    Open to the public
    The purpose of the school-based planning and shared decision-making teams shall be to improve the educational performance of all students in the schools.   Each building has a team comprised of teachers, parents, administrators, and school-related professionals.  In addition, the HS and MS teams include student representatives. Building teams meet monthly and meeting dates can be found on the school calendar.

    Substance Abuse Committee
    Open to the public
    Substance Abuse Committee: The Substance Abuse Committee welcomes new volunteers to join us in the process of building relationships by forming a community action group to help prevent the abuse of drugs by youth in the North Shore area. We plan to build relationships with all sectors of the community to help prevent the abuse of drugs by our youth. It is important for many people to convince the youth in our community that the risks associated with drug use are not worth taking, and that they can make more positive alternative choices. Specific goals for the meeting will include the following:

    1) To review findings from a student assessment survey and focus group discussions.
    2) To review the district initiatives related to substance abuse
    3) To review current substance abuse information from a law enforcement perspective
    4) To share ideas on what all stakeholders can contribute to help keep our youth drug-free and to plan for a large “Drug Free” Community Forum

    Technology Committee
    Open to the public
    Technology Committee: The purpose of the Technology Committee is to formulate and execute technology initiatives throughout the district to foster 21st Century Skills for students and staff. Additionally, during the 2016-17 school year, the committee will be tasked with developing a draft Smart Schools Investment Plan, in compliance with the requirements of the NYS Smart Schools Bond Act), for Board of Education consideration.

    Wellness Committee
    Open to the public
    The purpose of the Wellness Committee is to assist the Board of Education, administration and district staff in supporting student achievement by creating a healthy school environment, as well as encourage students to make healthy choices. The Wellness Committee is committed to providing school environments that educate and protect children’s health, well being and ability to learn through healthy eating and physical activity.
