JAE Peace Pole Dedication
The Rocky Point School District hosted a Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony at Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School on Nov. 18. It is the second Peace Pole installed in the District.
Fifth graders in the Academic Leadership Club, along with adviser Mr. Mark Yashowitz, selected a spot right where the school bus loop drops off and picks up students so they can see and understand the importance of the Peace Pole.
Gifted by the Rocky Point Rotary Club, the Peace Pole is an internationally recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth.
Parents, staff members, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Rotary Club members and community residents were in attendance. Rotary President Mr. Kevin Mann spoke of the importance of the Peace Pole project and how the District is part of the Corridor of Peace Project encompassing neighboring school districts.
Quentin Palifka, an alumnus of Rocky Point High School, presented a certificate of recognition on behalf of Leg. Chad Lennon’s office. Mr. Palifka was thanked by Mr. Yashowitz for attending and for his contributions to the local community.
