FJC Winter Concert Complete with Jingle, Jive and a Surprise Guest!
Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School held its annual Winter Concert on Dec. 9. The FJC 2nd Grade Chorus, under the direction of the Rocky Point Music Department’s newest faculty addition Miss Anna Macedonio, performed a fun and energetic program of holiday and winter themed music. The students performed with great joy and the concert was a big hit for the capacity crowd in attendance.
The concert opened with the tune, “Jingle Jive." This song was a jazzy adaptation of the familiar “Jingle Bells” that included student bell ringers and body percussion to replace the text. This was a challenging way for the students to open the show. Next was the traditional “Hanukkah O Hanukkah,” which allowed the students to experience performing in a minor key. Next was the fun-loving, “Snowman, Where’d You Go?” which included a surprise appearance by FJC’s resident snowman. The final selection, “This Holiday” was a lovely closer that put a bow on a terrific concert.
A congratulatory message from Rocky Point Music Department chairpersons Mr. Craig Knapp and Ms. Amy Schecher read: “The FJC 2nd Grade Chorus performed a fun concert! We are not sure who had more fun, the students or their parents! Congratulations to Miss Macedonio on her very first Rocky Point concert!! A huge thank you to Mrs. McGuire for all that she does as FJC Chorus Assistant. These youngsters were well-prepared, and the repertoire choices were very developmentally appropriate. Working with over 120 students and getting them to memorize all the words and sing together with melodic and rhythmic accuracy in only nine weeks is very challenging. The children were so enthusiastic! They were beaming with glee before, during and after the performance. We are very proud of these fabulous student musicians, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them as they continue their musical journey in Rocky Point! We are most appreciative that the Rocky Point School District Administration and Board of Education is supportive of our music department. We are very proud to be one of the only schools in New York State that offers a 2nd grade Chorus opportunity for students.”
