Commerce & Courtesies: Lessons Learned at JAE
Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate school students in Gina Hale’s class gained valuable lessons in commerce and kindness when they created a holiday cookie sale on Dec. 18.
The students set out the day before the sale mixing, baking, cutting and decorating the cookies. They also practiced their day-of sales pitch: greeting customers, asking how many cookies they would like to purchase and thanking them for their order. Lessons also included math and ELA skills, important strengths to use throughout their adult lives.
The students will use the proceeds for an upcoming bowling trip.
“It was such a beautiful morning and a great success,” Mrs. Hale said. “The students enjoyed the cheerful mood and getting to see staff drop in to purchase their handmade products.”
A special thanks to Principal Mrs. Greening, Assistant Principal Mr. Paquette, Assistant Director of Special Education Ms. Burleson, speech teacher Mr. Giannetto, behaviorist Ms. Pfaeffle, teaching assistant Ms. Ryan and classroom aides Ms. Alabi, Ms. Altieri and Ms. Meehan.
“They were all being instrumental in helping the students be successful,” Mrs. Hale said. “It was such a team effort! I couldn’t do it without their support.”
