Building Community at Rocky Point Middle School
In case you missed it – the December Rocky Point Middle School hackathon, organized by teachers Jenessa Eilers, Victoria Fabrizio and Ryan Stern, was a resounding success.
The event, guided by High School Advanced Placement Computer Science students and recent alumni, used a top coding and computer science platform to teach basic coding skills. Projects included creating holiday cards, crafting a holiday letter scrambler, developing a hot chocolate calculator, programming a snowflake temperature converter and more.
There were roles for every student according to Mr. Stern. From coding to designing to brainstorming, students were encouraged to unleash their creativity and solve challenging problems.
The Rocky Point School District thanks the alumni who aided the students. They are Nicholas DeNobrega, Evan Donovan, Matthew Liselli, Parker Matzen, Matthew Mitchko, Gina Odierno and Bernard Tenreiro.
Rocky Point High School students who are currently enrolled in AP Computer Science or already took the course who assisted are Bethanne Basirico, Luke Heller, Benjamin Lehman, Zen Pinkenburg, Om Patel and Nathan Watkis.
