Rocky Point’s Radical Robotix competition team (John Coburn, Sena Donnelly, Collin Fishman, Jason Haag, James Harris and Jackson Wright) competed in the FIRST Lego League Qualifier Tournament at William Floyd High School on Feb. 8.

For the 13th consecutive year, a Rocky Point Middle School team qualified for the Long Island championships. They will compete against the other top 30 teams on Long Island to see who will be selected as the Long Island champion on March 9 at Hicksville High School.

The team also earned second place in the Robot Design category for their use of outstanding programming principles and solid engineering practices to develop a robot that is mechanically sound, durable, efficient and highly capable of performing challenge missions.

The team is coached by Mark Moorman and Karen Gambino.
