SRO Connects with Students on a Human Level
School Resource Officer Karl Allison from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Community Relations Bureau was at Rocky Point Middle School this week to talk with eighth graders about the perils of vaping.
During his classroom visits over a three-day period, Officer Allison shared why teens may vape including peer pressure, curiosity and targeted marketing techniques. He encouraged the students to build good habits and challenged them to take one positive thing from the presentation to use in the future.
Office Allison’s visit to the school is part of the County’s goal to build better relationships with schools to provide students with the ability to develop close relationships with their SRO. Officer Allison worked with the students to present the topics in a way that engaged them and spoke to them in relevant terms, while also sharing his unique perspective and on-the-job experiences.
