Summer Reading Resources

Summer Reading Resources

Summer is a wonderful time for students to explore new interests, discover favorite authors, and continue developing the reading habits that support success throughout the school year. Reading regularly, even for a short time each day, can help students maintain their skills while encouraging curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning.
The resources below offer book suggestions, family reading strategies, library programs, and other opportunities to help students remain engaged with reading throughout the summer.

Supporting Your Child’s Reading
These resources are intended as starting points for exploration rather than as required or district-endorsed reading assignments. Because every child is different, parents and guardians play an essential role in helping students select materials that reflect their age, readiness, interests, experiences, and family values.
Families are encouraged to remain actively involved by discussing reading choices with their children, previewing materials when appropriate, and helping them select books and other texts that are meaningful, enjoyable, and suitable for them.
There is no single book, or single type of reading, that is right for every student. Novels, picture books, graphic novels, nonfiction, magazines, eBooks, audiobooks, and shared family read-alouds can all contribute to a rewarding summer reading experience.
Most importantly, students should have opportunities to make choices, talk about what they read, and experience reading as something that is both valuable and enjoyable.
