A Successful Idea Percolates in Rocky Point
Rocky Point School District’s Transitional Support Skills class, along with teacher Mrs. Jessica Gentile, launched The Rocky Perk Café last week. The cafe welcomed all staff from both the High School and Middle School and the turnout was fantastic.
“The students dedicated an entire week to prepare for this event, and their hard work truly paid off,” Mrs. Gentile said.
Students took on various roles, greeting patrons, seating them and serving meals. The cafe featured the regular Rocky Perk menu along with a special drink offering. Upon being seated, patrons had their drink orders taken and were served chips and salsa. The lunch menu included pulled chicken and vegetable tacos, with students preparing fresh pickled onions, crafting their own taco seasoning and handling all food preparations for the cafe. They made sure to check in on patrons, clear tables and even offer dessert options, including vanilla and chocolate pudding parfaits topped with graham cracker crumbles and whipped cream.
“Additionally, the students are compiling their own recipe books to keep as they graduate from Rocky Point High School,” Mrs. Gentile said. “Thanks to generous donations, the students are eager to run their cafe again in the future.”
