FJC’s 2nd Grade Chorus Perform in the Rocky Point Spring Concert Series
Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School hosted its spring concert in the Rocky Point High School auditorium on May 7. The FJC 2nd Grade Chorus, under the direction of first year teacher Miss Anna Macedonio, performed a fun, energetic and demanding selection of music. The musical selections included repertoire from a wide variety of genres with contrasting tempos and tonalities. The children put on a delightful performance! One of the highlights of the evening was Miss Macedonio accompanying the children on her ukulele while they sang, “Rainbow Connection,” made famous in The Muppet Movie. The audience received the concert enthusiastically, and they burst into applause and a standing ovation after the final song! Kudos to Miss Macedonio, FJC chorus assistant Ms. Megan Mcguire, and the wonderful 2nd grade choristers!
A congratulatory message from Rocky Point Music Department Chairpersons Mr. Craig Knapp and Ms. Amy Schecher read: “It was a fantastic evening of joyful music making for Ms. Macedonio and the students. The repertoire choices were developmentally appropriate yet challenging for this age group. The selections were stylistically diverse, and the inclusion of movement was an aesthetically pleasing and beneficial supplement that enhanced the overall performance. The students worked very hard in their many months of rehearsals to learn several songs and they performed with great joy. The variety of musical selections was also particularly impressive, including songs in major and minor tonalities, songs with varied tempos, and a song with a live instrument accompaniment. The students rehearsed before and after school to sharpen their musical skills and prepare for their concert. It was a fun evening of joyful music making. The children were so excited, and they were beaming with smiles before, during and after the performance. Congratulations to Miss Macedonio, Ms. Mcguire and the students. We are very proud of these amazing student musicians, and they deserve the highest praise for their accomplishments. Thank you to the families of these students for all their support and encouragement. Thank you to all the district administrators and Board of Education members in Rocky Point for their continued support of our music programs. We are very lucky to be one of the few schools in New York State that offers a second grade chorus experience for our students.”
