Bringing Awareness
Throughout October, the Rocky Point School District came together to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. From athletic teams to student clubs and staff members, the school community demonstrated compassion, teamwork, and dedication to making a difference.
The Rocky Point Girls Volleyball Team led the effort with its annual Dig Pink and Dezy Strong games and fundraisers. Through the generosity of families, friends and supporters, the team hosted snack and goodie sales, a Chinese auction and a 50-50 raffle. Their efforts raised $5,000, benefiting the Side-Out Foundation, the Dezy Strong Foundation and several local families affected by breast cancer.
Students also took action through the Interact Club, advised by Mrs. Messinetti, who organized a lobby awareness table each Wednesday morning in October. Club members encouraged donations, shared educational materials and helped keep awareness at the forefront for the entire school community.
Rocky Point’s dedication extended beyond the classroom and gym. Staff members joined the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign, led by the Rocky Point Teachers’ Association liaison. Through generous donations, staff have raised $1,065 and counting, contributing to the statewide NYSUT total, which last year ranked among the top fundraisers in the nation.
From student-athletes and service clubs to faculty and families, our school united to raise funds, share knowledge and show support for those affected by breast cancer. Their collective efforts reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to kindness, community and making a lasting impact. We are so proud of you all!
