Mark Twain Literary and Art Contest Awards

Rocky Point High School recently hosted its 48th Annual Mark Twain Literary and Art Contest Awards Ceremony, celebrating the creativity, imagination and artistic achievements of its students. Advised by Mrs. Schumacher and Ms. Blume, the event celebrated the outstanding creativity and artistic achievements of Rocky Point students.For the ceremony, the library was transformed into a garden party with candlelight ambiance, creating an elegant and inspiring setting for the occasion. One of the evening’s highlights was a special appearance by physical education teacher Kelly Calamita, who delighted attendees with a poetry performance while dressed as Mark Twain. This longstanding annual tradition provides students with a creative forum and an opportunity to showcase their literary and artistic talents. Through poetry, prose, artwork and other creative expressions, students demonstrated the imagination, passion and originality that continue to make the event a meaningful part of the Rocky Point community. As Albert Einstein once stated, “Creativity is contagious, pass it on.” The ceremony served as a reminder of the importance of creativity in shaping the world around us. Creative individuals inspire others to see life in more beautiful, meaningful and imaginative ways. The many talented student winners honored at this year’s ceremony represent the next generation of artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, designers and innovators who will continue to influence and enrich society. In attendance were building principals Mr. Moeller, Mrs. Lawson and Mr. Gabrielle; Director of Humanities Mrs. Serrano; Superintendent of Schools Dr. O’Brien; Assistant Superintendents Ms. White and Mr. Van Cott; and Board of Education Trustee Mrs. Sullivan. Representing the English Department were Mr. Settepani, English Department chairperson; teachers Mrs. Calo, Mrs. Catandella, Mrs. Diament, Mrs. Hludzinski, Ms. Nardiello and Mrs. Pina; and high school librarian Jessica Sciarrone. Representing the art department were Ms. Kyriakakis and Mr. Meier. Congratulations to all student winners for their remarkable artistic and literary accomplishments. Their creativity, dedication and willingness to share their voices and talents continue to make the world a more inspiring and meaningful place.
