Fifth Graders Take the Next Step at Moving Up Ceremony

Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School celebrated its fifth grade students during a moving up ceremony held on June 23 at Rocky Point High School. Family members and staff gathered to recognize the accomplishments of the fifth grade class as the students prepare to head to Rocky Point Middle School this fall.
The ceremony opened with members of the student council leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Principal Nicole Pletka welcomed students and their families, congratulating the fifth graders on their successful three years at JAE Intermediate School.
Principal Pletka and Assistant Principal Benjamin Paquette then presented several special awards to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement, leadership and service. Honors included the Achievement Award, Triple C Award, Public Service Award and OAG Civic Ambassador Award.
Following the awards presentation, JAE’s fifth grade select chorus, High Notes, performed three songs – “It’s Our Time,” “Memories” and “Onward.” Each song was directed by a fellow fifth grade High Notes member, showcasing the musical talents of the class.
Students were then recognized by their respective teachers and proudly walked across the stage to receive their moving up certificates as family members and friends applauded their accomplishments. The ceremony also honored three retiring JAE staff members. Ms. Whelan, Mr. Friscia and Ms. Banigan were congratulated and thanked for their years of dedication and service to the Rocky Point school community.
