Senior Receives Gina Pellettiere Award of Recognition

Rocky Point High School senior Jeremy Moriarty was honored with the Gina Pelletiere Award of Recognition during the closing ceremony of the Newsday Marching Band Festival on Oct. 21. Moriarty is the first student from outside the Farmingdale School District to receive the award, making the recognition a historic milestone for the Rocky Point music program.
The award was established in 2024 to honor the memory and legacy of Gina Pelletiere, the longtime director of the Farmingdale High School band. It recognizes a music student who demonstrates dedication to the musical arts, musical achievement, peer support and a commitment to a future in music.
Moriarty exemplifies these qualities through his extensive involvement in Rocky Point’s music programs and his commitment to supporting fellow musicians. He performs with the marching band, concert band, high school and middle school jazz bands, high school pit orchestra and brass choir. As a brass section leader in the marching band, he has played an important role in welcoming and mentoring incoming ninth grade students, leading sectional rehearsals and helping fellow musicians strengthen their skills.
Additionally, Jeremy was named a 2025 NYSCAME/Suffolk All-County and NYSSMA All-State first horn. He has also been selected to play first horn in this year’s All-County Symphonic Band and All-State Symphonic Orchestra. Outside of school, Moriarty performs with the Stony Brook University Orchestra and the MYO Principal Orchestra and has participated in summer music programs at the Eastman School of Music, Adelphi University and the Usdan Center. He plans to pursue a degree in music performance next year.
Moriarty is known for his generosity and dedication to his school and community. He regularly performs at local events, volunteers his time to support district music programs, assists with the middle school jazz band and tutors beginning middle school musicians.
Through his talent, leadership, kindness and commitment to helping others grow, Moriarty embodies the qualities celebrated by the Gina Pelletiere Award of Recognition. His selection brings special pride to the Rocky Point School District and highlights the lasting impact of music education, mentorship and service to others.
